Character Images for 31-10

By Cbevan_|May 16, 2015|Blog, MA Scriptwriting

Working in a partnership as much as I do, Rhia and I find that “casting” our characters early on helps us both keep track of the image in each others minds. Sometimes we might have completely conflicting ideas and need to talk it out. Other times, Rhia, being far more artistic than I, will have an image so clear in her mind that words will fail her…so she’ll search for an actor or actors that match or closely match the image.

We started out pasting head shots into a Google Doc that we both could access from anywhere in the world. It was particularly useful tool while I lived in France as we developed 31-10. However, the documents grew in length and became almost annoying. As a result, we began to use pinterest boards to keep track of our ideal casting.

Here’s a look inside our heads:

Katie Mcgrath

PHOEBE: A practical, cynical psychologist who is turned into a vampire against her will. She has a blood connection to Sofia. This makes her the key to Sofia’s destruction as well as her ultimate power.

MR. DOE: A 90 year old nightwalker who was turned by Lydia’s mother, Ann in 1955. He was confined to the mental health ward because Ivan, Sofia’s father and the former king of Europe, suspected him of acting as a mole to Jensen, the leader of the Uprising. Mr. Doe met Phoebe during his confinement. Beforehand, he acted as an advisor to Ivan and a tutor to Sofia.

LYDIA: Born Ezerbet Bathory, the Blood Countess of Hungary. Sofia’s mother. She is a powerful psychic and part of the gene pool that makes Sofia as strong as she is. She is fierce with a great sense of self and decorum. Not someone you want to mess with, fair but tough.

IVAN: Sofia’s father. He apparently died which lead to Sofia taking the throne. However, his idea of dead seems to include hunting Sofia and only Sofia. Ivan is clinical and meticulous. He has a reason for absolutely everything he does and has a role in the outcome of every good and bad event that has shaped Sofia up to this point and will continue to define her future.

SEBASTIEN: An Elite vampire, turned by Ivan during the last of the Druid Purge in Brittany. He and Sofia are betrothed by the will of her father and nothing more. Seb acts as Sofia’s Regent and Advisor even though she regularly ignores him. They act more like siblings because they were raised together as such. Part of Sofia’s Security Council.

CECILE: Sebastien’s sister. She was also turned by Ivan but only because Seb made it a requirement. She is extremely jealous of Sofia. She acts like she is loyal and unappreciated when really she is bitter and twisted. Cecile is in cahoots with Jensen and is a strong support of the Uprising. An untrusted part of Sofia’s Security Council.

JENSEN: A Nightwalker. The head of the Vampire Uprising. He thinks vampires shouldn’t have to rule the human race from the shadows. He wants to bring vampires into the light and turn humans into cattle.

ALYSSIA: The head of Sofia’s personal Succubi Guard. She was raised with Sofia just as Ivan’s Head of Guard was raised with him. She knows Sofia inside out and makes up part of her Security Council.

DANIEL: An Elite vampire and Sofia’s personal bodyguard. She calls him Hercules. He has been her protector since she was a child.

MAXIMUS: An Elite vampire. The head of the Elite Guard and an old friend of Sofia’s father. He is a member of Sofia’s Security Council.
