November Challenge

By Cbevan_|October 30, 2016|Blog

2016 was supposed to be a year of getting things done. Projects were to be finished, pieces were to be redrafted and forgotten so I could move on to write more stories. I had a plan for this year

And part of that plan dictated that by this point in the year, I would have completed all prep on my next book – or more the rewrite of a book I started in 2008.

That hasn’t happened.

I was going to spend the entire month of November barrelling through 50,000 words for National Novel Writing Month (Nanowrimo). But without the prep, I know I’d end the month with 50,000 useless words. I would have to start all over again.

So rather than struggle through blind on one project, I’ve decided that for each week of November I am going to focus on writing the first draft of 4 shorts – 2 theatre pieces, 1 short film and 1 web pilot.

  1. No Going Back (w/t) –  Film – What do you do when everything you thought stable in your life crumbles? Do you work through it, miserable? Or do you jump on a train with your girlfriends to lose yourself in Europe?
  2. Radio Therapy (w/t) – Theatre – Carys has a problem. She’s addicted to love. Put more precisely, she’s addicted to dating apps. Can she break the habit or will she remain stuck in a revolving door of failed love?
  3. Culture Shock Web – What do you do when the best year of your life, your Erasmus year, isn’t unfolding the way everyone said it would?
  4. Stick’s and Stones (w/t) – Theatre – Does anyone really get over the pain of being bullied? Some grow stronger but for some there really isn’t a light at the end of the tunnel. Girl in her 20s reminisces about the days of being bullied in school.

Wish me luck.
